Current Programs in Haiti

Micro-Credit

In 1999, AME-SADA, in response to a demonstrated need and request coming from various community groups organized to help support and implement the health programs of the clinics launched SADA KREDI. SADA KREDI consists of a number of village banks whose members are recruited from the support groups originally organized by the clinics. Three thousand women currently participate in the project. They receive loans for 9 months amounting to US$500 in local currency. The participants are subjected to a 9 - 12 month orientation in business and group dynamics in order to create their village bank, prior to receiving their loans. Previously the loan reimbursement rate was 99%, in the last year however, the reimbursement rate has been impacted by the unstable political and economic environment.
